| I
was born in Chicago in 1967, but spent most of my life in Wisconsin. I
have been interested in art all of my life and began drawing and
painting at a young age. I took an interest in architectural drafting in
high school and gave serious consideration to becoming an architect, but
my plans changed when my mother and I moved to Patrick, South Carolina.
Once here, I studied under a local artist who encouraged me to consider illustration as a profession instead. So I enrolled at Coker College and began studying graphic design. It was at Coker that I discovered photography and felt that a new creative door had opened to me. I had found a medium that allowed me to combine all of my artistic interests in one art form. I could create a photo using the fine art principles of composition, perspective, texture and abstraction and also seek out the architecture that exists all around us in everyday objects and natural forms. I suddenly had a unique perspective of the world through the viewfinder of my camera. I currently work as a graphic artist for Southern Graphic Systems in McBee, South Carolina, but take pictures at every opportunity in hopes of capturing the unappreciated beauty that exists within South Carolina. I feel that we live in a state that remains unrecognized for the purity of its’ simple landscape and wildlife. I hope that through my photography I can share my vision and cause others to look around them and appreciate the simple beauty of nature around them. |
