| "To
Touch with the Eyes" was carved before the "Marsh
Rhythms" series. These stone sculptures are made using sight and
touch as my tools. To do this, various abstract angles are used to
portray an emotion. This results in semi-abstract figures. The subjects
are smooth and polished to get the various play of light. Rhythm is an
important factor in uniting the various angles.
"Marsh Rhythms", a series of wood sculptures came after the "To Touch" series. Oak, cedar and cypress trees living on the edge and in the marsh are used. The sculptures get their identity from plants, animals and water in the marsh. These semi-abstract sculptures become the essence of the marsh. Through line, rhythm and finish, "Marsh Rhythms" has some similarity with "To Touch". However, using wood and the marsh as a subject make the two groups very different. |
